So if you’re visiting my blog for the first time, you’re going to have some questions. And if you’re going to ask questions, then I am going to do my very best to answer them and make you feel right at home.
Chances are, you already know I’m a writer. Which means your first question probably is if I started my first sentence with “so” and my second sentence with “and”, then what the hell kind of writer am I anyway?
I can tell now we’ve got off on the wrong foot. We could start again. Or you’re just being way too nit-picky. Really, we just met.
Now I’ve offended you. Ok. That was rude of me. I’m sorry. Let’s start over.
No doubt you have questions, so I’ll begin by answering the most common ones I get asked. The question I get asked the most – besides “excuse me madam, is that YOUR child?” (alas, often it is) – is that old chestnut, “so what do you do?”
I do lots of things, but to answer the question here, I’m a writer.
This is usually followed by “who do you think you are?”, “what kind of writer are you anyway?” or “you have got to be kidding yourself, get a real job.”
No wait, that’s my inner fiction editor talking. The inner non-fiction editor isn’t so bad because I can silence her with solid facts, but fiction? Woo-ee. Biatch.
The voices that are outside my head usually say far more polite things like how that must be so interesting (it is), how I must enjoy being able to fit my writing around my family (I do), or how lucky I am to do something I love (I am – although I’d also like to think something more substantial is also at play there. Like possibly skill or talent, perhaps).
Invariably, I am asked at some point in the conversation “so where can I read your stuff?”
And the answer is here. You can read what I write here. Well not everything I write. Some of it is personal, but if you want an idea of what I do, well you can read my “stuff” here.
Welcome to my blog.
